✦ ABOUT THE ARTISTS ✦

Cubafrobeat

Formed out of the collaboration between London fusionistas LoKkhi TeRra (“probably the world’s best Cuban-Afrobeat-Bangladeshi group” – Songlines) and UK’s Afrobeat Ambassador Dele Sosimi (“A true legend” – Clash), Cubafrobeat was initially the name of their critically acclaimed album from 2018 (“A total Stonking Blinder” – All About Jazz). This has evolved naturally into an entirely new musical beast – Featuring the two pianos of Kishon Khan and Dele Sosimi – Cuban percussionist/vocalist Javier Camilo (Ibrahim Ferrer) – Conga Maestro Oreste ‘Sambroso’ Noda (Ariwo) – Bata specialist Hammadi Valdes (Carlos Acosta) – a horn section led by Justin Thurgur (Bellowhead) and Graeme Flowers (Kyle Eastwood) to name a few – this is an All-star cast.

Jas Kayser

When Lenny Kravitz invites you to perform a drum duet you say yes. Since her 2018 cameo in the rock legend’s ‘Low’ video, drummer, composer and band leader Jas Kayser hasn’t looked back, winning Jazz FM Breakthrough Act 2021 and Parliamentary Jazz New Comer 2021.

The prolific 26-year-old has been picked up as an artist by Paiste Cymbals and Natal Drums and is winning an international following thanks to her eclectic adventures in sound which have taken her to Panama, Boston and the heart of the cutting edge London scene, where she is now based.

Alongside her original project Jas and Chums, she currently drums for Jorja Smith, Alfa Mist and Poppy Ajudha and has featured in bands with leading British lights Nubya Garcia, Ashley Henry as well as American drummer Ralph Peterson’s Big Band.

Her debut Album ‘Jas 5IVE’, explores the fertile ground that lies between Jazz and Afro-beat and has been championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson on BBC 6 Music, Jamie Cullum, BBC 3, Jazz FM, Mary Anne Hobbs and Jazzwise among others.

Zeñel

Zeñel is made up of London based trumpeter and producer Laurence Wilkins, Portuguese native Zoe Pascal on drums, and keyboard virtuosos Jay Verma and Alex Wilson sporting a seemingly infinite array of patches. They utilise a unique approach to midi and computer-based sound design to deliver a poetic combination of Jazz improvisation crossed with the world of electronic music, drawing from sounds seldom heard in live band contexts, inspired by cultural heritage of the electronic music, from the UK and globally.

Beringei DJ set

London-based producer Beringei consistently looks to explore deeper into the sounds that connect us all as people. Whether it be through ethereal instrumentation to let your mind wander or rhythm-focused to help us (re)connect with people around us.

Beringei’s summer single ‘Adore Ya’ has gained traction and stands out for its ability to thread the line between laid-back romantic grooves and bouncy breakbeat, club-ready drums, demonstrating Beringei’s versatility as a producer. This has been followed by the single ‘Clarity’, which transitions beautifully on from Adora Ya’, keeping with the groove-laiden keys and RnB vocals, but opting for a punchier base and quicker tempo.
